An Autumn Wedding in the Woods
The bride’s dream was clear—“I want to get married in the woods, surrounded by flowers that feel like they’ve been growing there forever.”
That vision set the tone for this nature-loving couple’s entire celebration.
Growing up exploring the Colville National Forest with her family, the bride’s love for the magical forests of the Pacific Northwest only deepened over time. When it came time to plan her wedding, she knew she wanted to exchange vows among the trees, with the mountains standing quietly in the background.
Inspiration for the floral design was drawn directly from nature—organic, textural, and intentionally unstructured to feel as if it belonged to the forest itself. A rich autumn palette grounded the look, bringing in warm, earthy tones that paired beautifully with the surrounding landscape and the natural charm of a September wedding.
The design inspiration began with the floral nest. Its natural, organic feel became the guiding force behind every creative decision. Foliage such as grevillea, ninebark, huckleberry, and cedar—paired with autumn-toned leaves—formed the nest’s earthy, textural framework. Layers of orach, lunaria, solidago, and dried grasses added depth and movement, creating a look that felt as if it had grown there on its own.
In keeping with the uncurated, forest-inspired style, butterfly ranunculus were the only blooms added. Their delicate petals offered an elevated wildflower aesthetic and brought a gentle, whimsical motion whenever the breeze passed through.
Because the couple chose not to have attendants standing beside them, we were able to tuck the edges of the nest in closer, creating the feeling of a private woodland oasis just for the two of them.
For the bridal bouquet, we were able to gather an abundance of beautiful blooms straight from the field. Dahlias like Bronze Cornel, Brown Sugar, and Night Silence paired effortlessly with hydrangea and Moab roses, creating a rich, autumn-inspired focal point. To echo the natural elements of the floral nest, we incorporated cedar branches along with layers of texture from orach, nandina, and lunaria.
The groom’s pocket square design complemented the bride’s hair comb perfectly. Both featured thoughtful details such as succulents, cedar, and cappuccino spray roses. One of the sweetest touches came from the groom himself—he had collected tiny pine cones from a favorite vacation spot in Colorado, and they added the most meaningful little accent to both floral pieces.
This venue was full of hidden gems, each space more captivating than the last. After sharing a heartfelt first dance, the couple joined their guests in a beautifully restored horse barn for the reception. Lush vines spilled and climbed across the walls, transforming the space into what felt like a secluded secret garden tucked deep within the woods.
The reception space glowed with flowers and candlelight, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where guests felt instantly at home. Candles lined the tables and filled the room with a soft, inviting light, illuminating floral arrangements that echoed the natural beauty of the day. The goal was to bring a touch of the forest indoors, and the space carried that same organic charm.
The cake quickly became a centerpiece of admiration. Thoughtfully crafted by Suzy Q Cakes, it was adorned with delicate pressed flowers that the bride’s sister had prepared ahead of time. This meaningful detail made the cake not only beautiful but deeply personal—an artistic collaboration that guests couldn’t help but pause to appreciate.
Dinner featured delicious oven-fired pizzas, which added to the relaxed, communal feel of the evening. With heartfelt toasts, warm conversation, and the cozy ambiance of the venue, the night unfolded in an easy, joyful way.
For their send-off, guests filled paper cones with dried lavender. As the couple made their exit, the lavender floated through the air, creating a fragrant and celebratory moment that perfectly wrapped up the day’s nature-inspired theme.
It was such an honor to be a small part of this unforgettable day. Wishing this beautiful couple a lifetime of love, laughter, and joy — and a heartfelt bravo to everyone who worked behind the scenes to make the day as perfect as it was.
